We knew it would eventually be in one, but weren’t sure of  ”when?” and “which book?”

Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

Melody was feeling her oats this morning… she tried to get Richard with a snowball first thing, but he ducked, and then she called Kim & Kate and told us to come over and make a snowman before it all melted. And so, in honor of Nana Anne,  Rose, Miss Jeannette, and Mr. Jim… as well as everyone else that calls to give us a snow report… (You know who you are!)…

Mr. Phileas Frost

It was an absolutely beautiful day in Delaware…

And a good day to be at home…

Grandboys!

Or Great Grandboys, that is!

Our granddaughter Jordan and her hubby Luke flew in last week from California with their two little guys! Thought you’d all like to meet Jackson and Derik! Here they are visiting at Nana Mel & Pop-Pop Richard’s house…

Jack and Dee

Jackson proved to be big enough to help keep shop last Saturday…

Jack and PopPop

… and found a completely new use for the faux osage oranges we sell…

For us little folks…

Finally… a chair for the vertically challenged! Our family runs a little on the short side… some of us gals barely reach five feet tall… and finding sofas and chairs that fit us is not easy. Our guys have actually trimmed the legs off brand new chairs to make them more comfy. Weren’t we surprised to open the mail and find this new page to add to our Johnston Benchworks catalog…

JohnstonLowGap0001

Introducing the Low Gap Settle and Chair… it also comes in a Sofa and Chair-and-a-Half  length, and they have footstools and benches of the same height. Melody, Kim, and Kate are jumping up and down for joy… and trying to figure out how we can order one for ourselves!

Fall is coming in the back door…

Hello everyone!

We’ve turned the AC up high so we can get into an autumnal mood! Melody & Kim have started filling every nook & cranny with pumpkins, crows, and pilgrims…

August2009 128

New spicy scents are arriving daily… Fresh Pumpkin, Cinnamon Cider, Pumpkin Spice, and Vanilla…

August2009 131

And there’s lot of  new needful stuff coming… fresh fall scents from Rhapsody Candles, mocha frosted pumpkins, fall stitchings by Kate, leafy & berry-laden garlands, autumn papercuttings by Kim, unique blown glass ornaments, table runners and placemats, and much more!

We’ll be taking a short break to get it all displayed and to get ourselves ready for the fall & Christmas season here at Hudson’s…

Make sure you come visit when
we re-open September 9th!

Playing in the sand…

Hi folks! We were digging around in some of our old store newsletters, and found a few things we thought we’d share here on the blog! Just in case you’re spending some time at the beach, here’s a fun idea…

Sandcastle

The New Garden, con’t.

Just wanted to show you all the well house Dad is building! It’s just about done, but I hear him sawing away on something outside, so there must be more coming… maybe a platform around the bottom?  This is modeled after the well behind the Raleigh Tavern… when in Williamsburg, we always go to the bakery back there and buy Virginia Ham sandwiches on biscuits, hunks of cheese, apple pasties (that’s not a typo… it’s pronounced “pass-tees”), and then sit near this well and eat our lunch. The birds and squirrels all congregate around the bakery and perform all sorts of antics to earn the crumbs people throw to them. The birds are not shy at all, and will practically take a piece of biscuit right from your hands! Without further ado… the well house in Hudson’s Garden!

march09store-019

We also just updated our home page with information about our upcoming EasterWeekend Open House… come meet our folk artists in person! They’re a neat bunch of folks, and very talented too!  So far we’ve got carvers, painters, papercutters, and basket weavers… plus Katie Moose will be here on Friday for a book signing. Weather permitting, our Kate will be doing open fire cooking demonstrations… we’re just not sure which century she’ll be in yet!

And Kim caught Melody & Kate jumping in the dumpster a few days ago… in case you wondered what we did for fun around here!
